PRESS RELEASE

I wrote the following press release to be issued regionally by FDOT Public Information Officers from each of the department's seven districts and the Turnpike. The release announces the Florida Department of Transportation's centennial.

Additionally, I used the same information to write a modified centennial press release for FDOT Secretary Jim Boxold as well as Transportation History Month speech talking points for Florida Governor Rick Scott.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANUAL
As the Social Media Manager for FDOT, I developed a comprehensive Social Media Guide for use by the department's various individual account managers. The guide highlights the various social media channels used by the department and their strengths, a list of active FDOT accounts, consistency in messaging and communication practices, online account security, and Florida public records policy.

Note that the "fdotdwp2" and SharePoint links in the document only work within the FDOT private network.

I have also written other instructional guides including the FDOT website development guidelines, the FDOT logo style guide, and a print guide to help customers prepare files when I worked in printing.

SOCIAL MEDIA

In preparation for the FDOT Centennial, I collected data from each of the seven FDOT districts, the Central Office, and the Turnpike spanning 1915-2015. I then fact checked all of the data before preparing a brief statement on each event. These statements were added to graphics (shown below and to the right), the FDOT website, Facebook, and weekly internal emails. I then reduced the statements to 140 or fewer characters, adding appropriate user tags and hashtags for use on Twitter.

All the @MyFDOT Centennial tweets may be found at #FDOT100.

AWARD PROPOSAL

Each year at FDOT I would write about one or two of our department's communication efforts and submit an award proposal to the AASHTO Subcommittee on Transportation Communications (TransComm).

The entries consisted of a 1-10 page presentation and a 1-2 page entry form detailing the project's goals, target audience, and measurable results. Of the submissions I prepared, our office won best logo, best newsletter, and best infographic among DOTs in all 50 states.

NEWSLETTER

As part of my duties at FDOT, I reviewed, edited, and posted each of the newsletter articles to WordPress while also writing a brief introduction for each in the email blast.
